Audiobooks

If you’re not already listening to MP3 audio books, you may want to consider checking one out over the summer. Listening to an audio book totally counts as reading and can make long summer car rides far more bearable. Audio books can be more expensive than print, but the public library has many MP3 audio books for children and teens to choose from. Just head on over to the Nova Scotia Public Libraries digital media download site, enter your library card number (barcode number) and your PIN (last four digits of your phone number) and you can download the audiobook of your choice for free! You can set the lending period and your file expires on the due date, so you’ll never incur any late charges.

You can also download audiobooks for free all summer via the website SYNC. Each week from June 14 – August 16, two free audiobooks will be available for download – a popular YA novel and a related classic novel. It’s a pretty great lineup this summer (it includes my favourite book of last year – Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor):

The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck

June 21 – June 27, 2012
